We are looking for an experienced Senior Apparel Graphic Designer to lead custom artwork development, contribute to seasonal collection development, and help shape the visual direction of the Ellsworth + Ivey brand.

 

Overview

The Senior Apparel Graphic Designer is a hands-on creative leader responsible for custom artwork, seasonal collection development, and the visual execution of the brand. This person will bring a strong creative point of view, lead projects from initial concept through production-ready artwork, and oversee and mentor a junior graphic designer. The role works across wholesale, custom partnerships, collegiate and licensed product, resort and hospitality, sporting organizations, corporate programs, retail, e-commerce, and Ellsworth + Ivey’s seasonal and core collections.

Key Responsibilities

Creative Direction and Collection Development
  • Bring a clear creative point of view to seasonal collections, custom programs, and brand initiatives.
  • Partner with leadership, product development, production, sales, and marketing to develop seasonal and core collections.
  • Contribute ideas for graphics, colorways, silhouettes, product stories, categories, and seasonal themes.
  • Create mood boards, color stories, graphic direction, artwork systems, and collection presentations.
  • Identify opportunities to evolve best sellers, refresh core products, and introduce commercially relevant newness.
  • Ensure collections feel cohesive, distinctive, and appropriate for the Ellsworth + Ivey customer.
  • Balance creative direction with production feasibility, pricing, lead times, and sales potential.
Custom, Licensed, and Production Artwork
  • Create original custom artwork for wholesale accounts, partners, and clients.
  • Develop concepts for knitwear, apparel, accessories, packaging, events, and branded product.
  • Translate logos, locations, mascots, landmarks, slogans, and brand elements into elevated, wearable designs.
  • Create graphics, illustrations, patterns, typography, placement artwork, and colorways.
  • Develop thoughtful design options based on customer needs, brand standards, production requirements, and commercial objectives.
  • Create seasonal templates and scalable design systems that can be customized efficiently.
  • Follow collegiate, event, league, and partner licensing guidelines.
  • Prepare artwork for licensing submissions and incorporate feedback from accounts and internal stakeholders.
  • Prepare accurate production-ready artwork, technical layouts, color callouts, placement specifications, and instructions.
  • Partner with production to ensure designs translate successfully into knit, embroidery, appliqué, print, and other techniques.
  • Review samples, proofs, strike-offs, and production submissions and provide clear revisions when needed.
  • Maintain organized files, version control, approvals, and final production artwork.
Brand Design
  • Lead or support collection graphics, product-drop templates, and broader brand assets.
  • Partner with the Head of Brand & Marketing to translate brand and commercial direction into cohesive visual communication.
  • Bring approved campaign concepts to life visually in partnership with the Marketing Strategist.
  • Create or oversee line sheets, presentations, catalogs, lookbooks, social assets, email graphics, website banners, retail signage, packaging, and event materials.
  • Maintain consistency across typography, color, layout, imagery, illustration, and graphic treatments.
  • Develop templates that support quick-turn sales and marketing needs.
Leadership and Collaboration
  • Oversee, mentor, and develop a junior graphic designer.
  • Assign projects, manage workload, review work, and provide clear creative and technical feedback.
  • Maintain visibility into priorities, revisions, approvals, and deadlines.
  • Partner with sales to understand account needs and commercial opportunities.
  • Collaborate with product development and production throughout concepting, sampling, approval, and production.
  • Work with marketing on launches, campaign assets, presentations, social content, and digital needs.
  • Participate in seasonal planning, assortment discussions, creative reviews, and account presentations.
  • Help improve the custom-design process from initial brief through final production.

Qualifications

  • 7+ years of apparel graphic design, art direction, or product design experience, preferably within fashion, knitwear, lifestyle, licensing, or consumer products.
  • A strong portfolio demonstrating original artwork, collection development, custom design, typography, illustration, patterns, and brand execution.
  • A strong creative point of view with an understanding of fashion, color, lifestyle, and commercial product.
  • Experience contributing to seasonal product or collection development.
  • Advanced proficiency in Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, and InDesign.
  • Experience preparing production-ready artwork and technical design files.
  • Understanding of knit, embroidery, appliqué, screen-printing, and other apparel production techniques.
  • Experience with licensed, collegiate, wholesale, hospitality, sporting, or custom-branded product is preferred.
  • Experience leading or mentoring a junior designer.
  • Strong organizational, communication, presentation, and project-management skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and revisions in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to take a project from concept through final production.
